Benjamin was born before 15 JUN 1856 in Tingewick, Buckinghamshire, the son of Benjamin Butcher and Elizabeth Barnes.

His wife was Fanny Horner, whom he married in ABT NOV 1881 in Driffield registration district, Yorkshire. Their four known children were Louisa (c1885-?), Maude (c1887-?), William (c1898-?) and Lizzie (c1900-?).
