CASE OF DROWNING — On Sunday afternoon about one o’clock, a man named James Cadd, was drowned in the Erie Canal near the Geddes street bridge. The deceased was sitting on the bank watching several boys bathing, one of whom asked for a chew of tobacco, and in attempting to hand it to him Cadd’s foot slipped and he fell into the canal. Mr. Adam J. Snyder succeeded in recovering the body by diving several times, but too late to resuscitate him. The body was removed to the residence of Mr. James Halliday, number 120 West Fayette street, and Coroner Didama called. Mr. Cadd was a highly respected resident of Loomis Hill, where he leaves a wife and four children. His remains will be taken to Loomis Hill for interment
