Notes

Note 1

Yes, I think John had plenty of investments in buildings and his plumbing business must have been successful. Manchester in the 19th centaury was growing very quickly with many houses being built, needing gas, water pipes and glazing.

In 1851 John was in partnership with George McCleary as Plumbers and Glaziers they lived next door to each other 27 and 29 Drake Street, Hulme.According to various dates in Manchester Directories, they worked from a few different addresses in Hulme which must have been builders yards.

In an 1874 Directory John is in partnership again this time listed as Brewerton and Gibbon, plumber and gas fitters at 21 Drake St. By this time John must have been well off as his home address was Surbiton Villa.
