Emma was born on 2 AUG 1837 in Tingewick, Buckinghamshire, the daughter of William Lucas and Frances Hicks.[Note 1]

Her husband was George Clifford, whom she married on 9 NOV 1863 in Tingewick, Buckinghamshire. Their four known children were Mary Ann (c1865-?), Phoebe Louisa (<1874-?), Frederick Alfred (<1876-?) and Catherine Emily (c1879-?).
