Richard was born about 1825 in Mixbury, Oxfordshire, the son of Joseph Meads but his mother is unknown.[Note 2]

His wife was Mary Ann Side, whom he married on 12 JUL 1847 in Tingewick, Buckinghamshire. They had no known children.
