Jane was born before 2 JUN 1850 in Tingewick, Buckinghamshire, the daughter of Richard Butcher and Susannah Wise.[Note 1]

Her husband was Alfred Cross, whom she married on 26 DEC 1876 in Tingewick, Buckinghamshire. Their six known children were Agnes Jane (c1878-?), George W. (c1881-?), Frederick (c1884-?), Elizabeth M. (c1887-?), Susan Leah (c1890-?) and Winifred (c1895-?).
