Thomas was born about 1833 in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, the son of James Cleaver and Sarah Beans.

He died on 24 DEC 1898 in Stanbridge Road, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire.[Note 2]

His wife was Caroline Whybrow, whom he married on 22 AUG 1853 in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire. Their six known children were William (c1854-1922), Sarah (c1856-?), Alfred (1857-?), Mary Ann (c1858-1920), Martha (1867->1881) and Emily (1872->1891).
