John was born before 7 APR 1850 in Tingewick, Buckinghamshire, the son of William Hunt and Elizabeth Smith.[Note 1]

His wife was Elizabeth Ann Bennett, whom he married in ABT FEB 1869 in Buckingham registration district, Buckinghamshire. Their seven known children were Mary Ann (c1870-?), James William Brooks (<1871-<1873), George H. (c1874->1881), Sarah (c1876->1881), William T (c1878->1881), Mary E. (c1880->1881) and Robert (c1895-?).
