Thomas was born on 17 JUN 1849 in Tingewick, Buckinghamshire, the son of William Butcher and Rachel Lucas.[Note 1]

His wife was Mary Ann Clarke, whom he married in ABT NOV 1876 in Woolwich registration district, Kent. Their only known child was William George (1878-?).
