Philip was born before 1 NOV 1863 in Little Tingewick, Buckinghamshire, the son of Edward Barnes and Silence Byles.[Note 1]

His wife was Flora Maude Wilmore, whom he married in ABT MAY 1895 in Winslow registration district, Buckinghamshire. Their two known children were Dorothy (c1896-?) and Elsie (c1898-?).
