Sarah was born about 1845 in Whaplode, Lincolnshire, the daughter of unknown parents.[Note 1]

Her husband was William Cox, whom she married in ABT AUG 1874 in Gloucester registration district. Their seven known children were George William (c1875-?), James Edward (c1876-?), Florence Edith (c1879-?), Gertrude (1881->1891), Millicent Ann (c1885-?), Amelia A. (c1885-?) and Maud Mary (c1887-?).
