Charles was born about 1849 in Wavendon, Buckinghamshire, the son of John Cooke but his mother is unknown.[Note 1]

He had five marriages/partners. His first wife is not known. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their only known child was Ernest (c1873-?).

His second wife is not known. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their only known child was Mary Ann (1881-?).

His third wife is not known. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their only known child was Herbert (c1875-?).

His fourth wife is not known. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their only known child was Charles (c1877-?).

His fifth wife was Mary Ann Smith, whom he married on 6 AUG 1871 in Tingewick, Buckinghamshire. Their only known child was Gertrude (c1884-?).
