Leah was born before 21 MAR 1858 in Tingewick, Buckinghamshire, the daughter of John Butcher and Hannah Sandwell.[Note 2]

Her husband was John William Cross, who she married on 25 APR 1889 in St. Aldgate's, Oxford, Oxfordshire. Their two known children were John W.R. (c1890-?) and Alfred (c1892-?).
