John was born about 1882 in Bourne/ Grimsthorpe, Lincolnshire, the son of William John Roots and Elizabeth Mary Pattison.[Note 1]

He died on 21 AUG 1915 in Gallipoli, Turkey.[Notes 2, 3]

Killed in action during the assault on Chocolate Hill, Suvla, on August 21, 1915, aged 34 years.

Note 3

WJ did have a son John, who died in 1915. I don't know any more about John, unfortunately -- most of this info is from my father who did the research years ago, and hasn't passed on some of his source information.

WJ is my GG grandfather. He died on 2 August 1909 at Rookery Farm, and is buried in Tingewick in a double grave with his wife, Elizabeth Mary, who died in Radclive on 2 April 1917.
