James was born before 1748 in poss. Clifton in Deddington, Oxfordshire, the son of unknown parents.[Notes 1, 2]

He died before 25 JAN 1772. The place is not known.[Note 3]

His wife was Elizabeth Pettifer, whom he married on 3 JUN 1764 in Stoke Lyne, Oxfordshire. Their five known children were John (<1764-<1773), James (<1766-?), Mary (<1768-<1769), Joseph (c1769-1831) and William (<1771-<1772).
