Personal and Family Information

James was born before 29 OCT 1798 in Tingewick, Buckinghamshire, the son of Joseph Harvey and Martha Paxton.[Note 2]

He died before 18 JAN 1872. The place is not known.[Notes 3, 4, 5]

His wife was Hannah Pritchett, whom he married on 11 OCT 1820 in Beachampton, Buckinghamshire. Their nine known children were Sarah (<1821-<1836), Ann (<1823-?), Joseph (<1826-?), George (<1829-<1829), Eliza (1830-<1891), Harriet (1833-c1874), David (1836-<1837), Eleanor (1838-?) and Hannah (1848->1851).

Harvey is spelt Hervey (see meaning below) in the Tingewick Parish Register when his daughter Sarah was baptised on the 6th August 1821.

HARVEY from `battle or carnage worthy` Breton Normanised as HERVED; introduced by the Bretons after 1066. Spelling HERVEY is older, much rare, and no longer representative of the sound. HERVIE is Scots.
