James was born about AUG 1863 in Tingewick, Buckinghamshire, the son of Andrew Read and Caroline Holton.[Notes 2, 3]
He died on 22 JUL 1932 in Camberwell, London.[Notes 4, 5]
He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Mary Ann Cleaver, whom he married on 1 MAR 1883 in Tingewick, Buckinghamshire. Their five known children were Emily Caroline (1884-?), Arthur (T?) (c1885-?), George J. (c1888-?), William Alfred (c1893-1966) and Ellen (1894-1948).
His second wife was Martha Blume, whom he married in ABT AUG 1920 in Camberwell registration district. They had no known children.

Family story that one son went to Australia to live (or extended stay?).
"Probably George" (per Aunt Doris' recollection); however, photos in
posssession of Ellen at her death that says:
Will & Alice - Sydney, Australia
(could be brother or cousins)
Family lived within walking distance of Picadilly Square. Lived in 3
story house with a dumb waiter. No yard. (per Aunt Doris?)
Where is family for 1891 census? ( 77 Greenhundred Rd, Peckham was
unoccupied at time of census)
One of these sons had wife &/or children named Patricia READ & Sylvia
READ (per Aunt Doris?)
