Joseph was born on 16 JUL 1816 in Tingewick, Buckinghamshire, the son of James Holton and Maria Beal.^{[Notes 2, 3]}

He died on 11 DEC 1897 in Tingewick, Buckinghamshire.^{[Notes 4, 5]}

His wife was Eliza Burnall, whom he married on 22 OCT 1835 in Tingewick, Buckinghamshire. Their five known children were William (1836-<1836), John (1837->1837), Caroline (1838-1865), Amy (or Emma) (1841->1917) and Sarah (<1844-c1924).

indicated by Joseph's age on later censuses.

3. There is only one HOLTON child baptized in Finmere during this period

- Joseph son of Joseph and Marth HOLTON.

4. Eliza HOLTON and Charles PETTY (later married) are listed as

witnesses to Joseph and Maria BURNALL's marriage. Frequently, siblings

are witnesses to marriages. Eliza HOLTON is dau of James and Maria.

5. Joseph HOLTON names 4 out of his 5 children with the same given names

as James HOLTON and Maria BEAL.
