Eleanor was born on 20 FEB 1830, the daughter of Daniel Steeden and Elizabeth Newett. The place is not known.[Note 1]

Her husband was James Clarke, whom she married on 29 OCT 1850 in Tingewick, Buckinghamshire. Their eight known children were Rosa (c1852-?), John (c1855-?), Francis W. (c1859-?), Herbert (c1862-?), Amelia Ellen (c1865-?), Elizabeth A. (c1869-?), Emma (c1871-?) and James (c1874-?).
